Raider Men's Team Race Past Ridgewater

If you are planning to go to a Central Lakes College Raiders men's basketball game this season, you may want to do some pre-game stretching before entering the gym. At the pace the Raiders are playing at, watching the action can seem like a form of physical exertion.

Often times in the early part of the season, the Raiders are discovering what they have as a team and what parts fit where. One thing is already certain this season.

The pace is going to be fast and the action is going to be furious. The Raiders gave a sample of that Friday night as they ran over the Ridgewater Warriors 108-62 in a non-division game and improved to 5-3 overall.

CLC's Jake Dryer led all players with 21 points and he was followed by Radimus Jones with 17. Davaghndre Jones scored 11 points and Jerry Truss chipped in with 10.

Freshmen-laden Men's Basketball Team

Maybe in Jim Russell's first year at Central Lakes College in 1997-98 did the Raiders' head coach have so few returning players.

Sixteen years later, only sophomore Alex Koch returns from last year's Raider team that went 17-13 and finished fourth in the MCAC state/Region 13 tournament.

"It's all fresh," Russell said. "We usually have between 5-6 guys back. Twelve of the 14 guys who played for us last year are enrolled somewhere else and are going to school. They either transferred or graduated. Four of the six freshmen last year graduated with their AA degree and are playing ball somewhere."

New Basketball Coach Trying to Rebuild Program

During her high school basketball career at Pequot Lakes, Cassie (Evenson) Carey developed a reputation as an aggressive, scrappy player, one who took the ball to the rim, dove for loose balls, blocked out on the boards and tried to cause turnovers.

She strived to be the kind of player the opposition didn't want to face.

Carey, who begins her first season as head coach of the Central Lakes College Raiders, hopes to instill some of those attributes in her first Raider team.

Unbeaten Raiders Overcome Thunder, Lightning

The midpoint of the 2014 season has arrived, and the Central Lakes College Raiders continued their perfect march, moving to 4-0 overall with a 35-32 Northern Division win over Fond du Lac on a day that mother nature dealt everything that she could offer at Findorff Athletic Complex.

The 16th-ranked Raiders, led by Athen Ashton's 65 rushing yards, and Jake Faber's 242 passing yards, jumped out to a 14-0 lead early in the first quarter.
