The Central Lakes College men's and women's basketball teams dropped their season openers Friday in the CLC Fall Classic on the Brainerd campus. The women lost to Bismarck State (N.D.), 78-50, and the men lost a last-second heart-breaker to United Tribes (Bismarck, N.D.), 73-71. Taaylr Egeness led the Raider women in scoring with 14 points, followed by Lindsay Monson with 12, and Jalynn Lamb with 10. The Raiders suffered from poor shooting but, after trailing 46-26 at the half, improved their effort to hold the Mystics to 32 in the last half. The teams meet again today at 2. The men also had a tough shooting night against the Thunderbirds 23 of 73 (32%), and 14 of 25 from the free throw line. The winners emerged with 2.3 seconds left, making a basket with .9 of a second left to escape. CLC scoring: leaders: Andre Thomas 17, Kevin Kuefler 16, Brandon Davis 11. The Raiders face unbeaten Division I Bismarck State today at 4.
